My new MacBook kept spitting out this disc, so I headed over to MySpace to see what the deal is. Glad I did — this be some crazy-ass shit right here. "Lines" is a loungey number with opiated sax, interspersed with jarring clunks and slaps. "I think I know who I am," croons the surnameless Thomas. Wish he'd share that information; his whole trip is studiously obscure. "See" is a chilly groover with clattering, metallic percussion. "Justify" juxtaposes nervous string scraping with deep oily vocals for an unsettling effect. "Loveman" reveals the influence of Tom Waits (or maybe Captain Beefheart) in its gravely, post-Satchmo vocal scat and Monkish piano plunk. I am sufficiently intrigued to go search for something else to play this CD on!
