I prefer not to review compilations, 'cause they force me to listen to the end, but this one from Cincinnati indie Datawaslost was worth the effort. My faves were Post-Haste, Coltrane Motion and Chalk but there's something here for nearly any taste:
Post-Haste: Taut, minimal neo-post-punk
Coltrane Motion: Corroded, swinging electro-jazz (Folk Implosion)
Swissfarlo: Cheerful indie-rock w/ Cobainish vox
Deltoro: An artier version of Post-Haste
Velcro One: Sleepy folky rock
Chalk: Screaming at the intersection of SY and MBV
Travels The World: Twee pop
Pop Lolita: Early U2 w/o the angst
Dj Aphid: Acid jazz or something
Haleymill: Take a risk with a song called "Lame," but it's not, quite.
The Mitchells: Neo-skiffle
Structure Factor 8: Lo-fi robot party-rock
Compiler: Morose folk
Gossett: Not Lou, but still cool. Folky lo-fi with insistent organ
Most of the above tracks are lo-fi without actually sounding like crap (none sound like crap, actually), and all sound like they were created by humans, a refreshing change nowadays.
